This training session will focus on the theory and application of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for use in monitoring agricultural environments. Training participants are expected to have a good understanding of the basic principles of land remote sensing and some hands on experience working with optical or other satellite imagery. The session will be tailored towards users of remote sensing in agencies responsible for delivering environmental information from resource surveys and is not intended as a comprehensive academic review of SAR. Demonstration sessions will focus on global crop monitoring applications and are designed to introduce the potentials and possibilities for integrating SAR into existing monitoring programs. Participants are expected to come away with a good understanding of the basic principles of SAR analysis and the technical skills needed to use SAR data for crop and soil monitoring.
